2020 Engineering Journal
We're off at a running start in the 2020 season! This year's game is one of the most challenging yet, meaning we're hard at work designing and building our competition robot. Taking advantage of the time we have during our school's January Term, many members are able to work on Robotics during the day as well. We're excited for competition! See you there.

Week One:
A Quick Rundown of This Week:
We watched the game & started strategizing (game video below)
We finished a Mecanum Wheel drive train and began driving (video below)
We began to prototype intake systems, shooters, storage for balls, and climbing mechanisms (video below)
We made a pros & cons list for our six prototypes and began to think about how they would work together
We began to CAD potential robot parts
We built field pieces to replicate game scenarios
We wrote up a team handbook
We began searching for sponsors for the 2020 season
Began working on distance & vision tracking using a Raspberry Pi and a webcam
We updated our social medias for the 2020 season and began designing this season's pin & logo
Goals for Next Week:
Introduce the handbook
Continue prototyping mechanisms
Finish building field pieces
Continue to test the mecanum wheels
Begin creating an algorithm for shooting the ball

Week Two:
A Quick Rundown of This Week:
We combined multiple prototypes into a working robot!
We continued to CAD robot parts
We utilized field pieces to conduct testing on prototypes
Based on the testing we did, we made adjustments to the prototypes and considered alternative ideas
We continued searching for sponsors for the 2020 season

Week Three:
A Quick Rundown of This Week:
We are almost completely out of the prototyping phase! (meaning we're beginning to work with metal instead of wood, now)
We're making progress in CADing the robot
We built the pneumatic chassis
We started using CIMencoders to regulate/stabilize the speed of the motors (to hopefully make it more consistent at shooting!)
We finished the intake gravity feed prototype
We cut down the chassis to the correct dimensions
We created a working climb prototype!

Week Four:
This was a much shorter week because of January Term Symposium Sessions. (Learn what that means here) We've steadily been making progress on the CAD of the robot and preparing for awards.
In light of recent events, please email [email protected] before Wednesday, February 3, 2020 to learn more about how you can show your support for Meredith and Brandon Hogan.

Week Five:
A Quick Rundown of This Week:
We worked on finalizing the CAD
We finished and submitted essays for the Woodie Flowers Award and Chairman's Award
We held mock-interviews for the Dean's List Award
We continued fundraising efforts
We worked on the intake & feeder mechanisms
If you'd like to contribute to the project for the Hogans, please email [email protected]

Week Eight:
A Quick Rundown of These Past Two Weeks:
We have a robot!
We are working on making adjustments to our hopper
We are working on our autonomous code
We made 500 buttons for our first competition
We wired our robot
We have continued to work on our climb mechanism
We worked on our Chairman's presentation
We continued fundraising efforts
We prepared for competition by assembling things for the pit
We observed several competitions in order to strategize
